Andy Gracie is an artist producing work situated between the arts and the sciences, creating situations of exchange between organic and synthetic systems that allow new emergent behaviours to develop. Over recent years his work has evolved from interactive and generative sound installations to pieces that involve robotics, artificial intelligence, biological practice and custom electronic systems.

 

He has exhibited his work across the UK aswell as in France, Spain, USA, Japan, Mexico and Australia including commissions for new works from Arnolfini Live in Bristol, Organismos in Madrid and Barcelona and AV06 in North East England. He has also exhibited at the digital arts festivals ISEA, Artbots, Radar and at the Capital of Culture 'Robots' exhibition as part of Lille2004.

 

He has presented lectures about his work and related cultural and theoretical issues at numerous international conferences including Transmediale (Berlin), Dias de Bioarte (Barcelona), Rules of Engagement (York), AV06 (Middlesborough) and FLAIRS (Florida) as well as independent appearances at the University Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona and the Kapelica gallery, Ljubljana.


He has had published various articles including Aminima magazine, the journal of the American Association for Artificial Intelligence and the catalogue for Break2.3 in Slovenia and has been interviewed for the well known media arts blog 'we make money not art' and the digital arts resource 'artsnodes'.

Alongside this work he is involved in a range of teaching, lecturing, research and workshop activities internationally and is a member of the DRU research group at the University of Huddersfield.
